When Mary Small died it had been almost 80 years since she first performed on radio. Because she began as a child, most of her contemporaries had already been gone before she turned fifty. So when she passed away, there were not many people around to make sure she was remembered. Despite tremendous accomplishments, she never received an obituary. The filmmakers sincerely hope that this documentary will help secure her legacy and give her a proper burial.
But The Little Girl With The Big Voice is not simply a tribute to Mary Small, it is an acute historical commentary on the sacrifices made by women and children throughout the Great Depression and the Second World War that impacted an entire generation. We intend to use proceeds from this documentary to purchase a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Mary in honor of her dedication to music and her country.
